Can The Grapefruit Diet Work For You?
It is called the grapefruit diet because you must eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice with each of the three meals. A sample breakfast might include a half of grapefruit plus two eggs and bacon. The lunch menu would be a half of grapefruit or 8 ounce glass of juice plus a chefs salad with plenty of meat on top. Dinner allows an unlimited amount of meat, vegetables or a salad and of course a half of grapefruit.
Your bedtime snack is an 8 ounce cup of low fat milk. The experts who have studied the grapefruit diet say you will probably lose weight whether you eat the grapefruit or not because the plan strictly limits the intake of calories. There is no scientific research which can confirm the fat burning effects of grapefruit but there are those who swear by the program and it has been talked about enough to still be around 60 years later.
Doctors do seem to agree that grapefruit is good for you but they say it is not any more or less than healthy than other fruits or vegetables which should be a part of any healthy diet. Please be aware that a very strict, very low caloric diet is very dangerous and should only be done under the supervision of your doctor. This is a very hard diet to stick to, because of the low calories, mostly resulting in failure to complete. So, again, just another Fad Diet.
Would it be okay to freeze them with both the sugars added before freezing? I don't know why you couldn't make jam in 6 months time. Perhaps you might consider writing to your County Ag Extension office -- they might be able to better answer your question. Maybe there's a reason to NOT do it that I don't know about.
Good luck finding someone who really knows. We make peach jam, will these frozen peaches be as good for jam 6 months later as fresh ones are now? Good luck with your peaches, Pam. Thanks for the easy and quick way to freeze peaches. Glad to hear it, Joanne. You have motivated me to store peaches not too complicated. The lemon juice helps to retain color.
Fruit will discolor in the freezer if an acid isn't added. The sugar acts as a preservative. I think you'd be okay if you leave out the lemon juice, but (personally) I wouldn't decrease the sugar. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond! Do you have to use both lemon juice and sugar?
Can I use only a little sugar since the peaches are so very sweet and I am going to vacum package them? Bottled lemon juice will certainly work since it's the acid that will help to retain the color. I use fresh. But I'm a firm believer in using what you already have around the house.
Thanks so much for reading! Would bottled lemon juice work instead of a fresh lemon or is there a reason to use a fresh lemon? You're welcome -- it was fun to write. Good luck with those peaches, let me know how they turn out! I'm off to find me some fresh peaches!
Some take longer than others, some people just never get the education about how bad it really is for us and the environment (and the animals) and those are the ones who keep on eating animal products. Thanks for writing about this stuff ! This was very interesting. Although I am not and do not plan to become a vegan, I definitely believe that adding more plant foods and reducing (or cutting out completely) refined sugars is to everyone's benefit. Thanks for the info. Excellent hub which really made me rethink my diet. I don't think I could ever become totally vegetarian, I like my steaks too much. But I really should consider cutting back as I've noticed my stomach seems to be in some sort of revolt. Voted Up, useful and interesting.
On ingredients lists, look for sucralose, saccharin, aspartame, acesulfame K, and neotame. Avoid the center of the supermarket as much as possible. That’s where most of the processed foods are shelved. Instead, shop the perimeter for healthy, raw foods. If you have young kids, go to the grocery store by yourself. You may be less apt to come home with sugary treats. Plus, you can take more time to examine the labels for hidden sugar. If your kids are grade school age or older, take them along and enlist their help as Sugar Detectives.
Give them each a list of hidden sugars and artificial sweeteners and turn it into a game. Carefully measure how much honey you put in your tea and how much sugar you put in your coffee. Aim to put in a bit less each day or each week until you are drinking it either unsweetened or with just a bit of sugar. Buy items that are not sweetened, and add sugar only if you find that you need to.
This will help you wean off the sugar gradually. Steer clear of sugars for breakfast. When you start your day with a sugar blast and crash, you may find yourself in a vicious cycle for the remainder of the day. Start your day with healthy lean protein and complex carbs.
