5 Healthy And Delicious Alternatives To Diet Soda

Be honest- the number of diet sodas can you drink per day, One, Two, A 2 liter, It's ok… I won't tell. In fact, I can't even hear what you're saying! Diet soda is just one of those things within the diabetes community that's everywhere. People LOVE the stuff. It's considered a no cost food” therefore the amount you can have is limitless… Or is it,

Personally, I am not hot for diet soda. I only drink it when I'm sick. But others drink all of it the time. I am not the meal police, but I realize that diet soda is not the best thing to get drinking the entire day. If you have one every now and then, it is not a big deal. Moderation is paramount to a happy life. You shouldn't deprive yourself of something that you enjoy and making you happy. But you also shouldn't over-indulge either.

There is much debate about whether diet soda is detrimental for you. Does aspartame causes cancer, Does diet soda help promote weight loss or weight gain, I am no scientist. I don't know exactly what the truth is. I do know that health benefits or problems aside, many of us should be drinking more water. And no… diet soda just isn't a replacement water.

Water is THE best thing you can provide your body to drink. So we all understand that water compensates roughly 70% of your body. We are water. Our muscles, blood, organs and brain are mostly water. Water helps anything from our skin, to your hair to joints and all of our systems. Ever notice when you find yourself dehydrated that you feel lethargic, Well, dehydration can also be the cause of chronic pains in the joints and muscles, lumbar pain (hi DAD!), headaches, and constipation. No fun.

As PWDs we now have enough to bother with. I don't want to think about dehydration. Especially when my blood sugar levels are high. So I take water.

I can't expect that people will replace a sweet, bubbly, carb-free beverage choice with one which is essentially tasteless every time they take a drink. So what can you reach for instead, I have found many options that will help keep you hydrated and feeling like you're drinking something soda-like.

The Contenders

Hint Unsweetened Essence Water. $1.50 per bottle at Whole Foods, about $22 for any case on , $15.99 for any case on 0g carbohydrates, no sweeteners of any kind. I have tried the honeydew-hibiscus and also the cucumber flavors. The honeydew-hibiscus was delicious. It had a very light and refreshing taste that both me and my daughter enjoyed. The cucumber flavor wasn't bad. It was a lttle bit strong, but I discovered that if you simply give a slice of cucumber to a glass of water it'll taste far better. Not to mention a smaller amount expensive!

Hint Fizz Unsweetened Watermelon Sparkling Water. $6.49 at Whole Foods to get a 6 pack, 0g carbohydrates, no sweeteners of any kind. This option is really a really great one if you really love the carbonation of the diet soda. But it's totally unsweetened and delicious. There are plenty of other flavors apart from watermelon, too. The watermelon taste is natural and refreshing. Perfect over a hot day like we have been having here lately! Again, it's a little expensive and I think which you could get comparable flavor in case you had some sparkling water like Pallegrino or perhaps club soda and several lemon or lime spritzed in.

Zevia Cola $5.99 for the 6-pack at Whole Foods, I stood a $2 off coupon, $27.00 for just two cases (24 at ), 0g carbohydrates, sweetened with stevia. If you are addicted to diet coke, I would recommend this method above the others. It's sweet, it tastes like soda, and there's zero carbohydrates. It is sweetened with stevia as an alternative to aspartame, which I commend because I'm not an enormous fan of aspartame. Stevia is really a natural, carbohydrate free sweetener and superior (in my opinion) than aspartame. It does have a bit of an aftertaste, but should you are accustomed to drinking diet soda this shouldn't be an issue in your case. You can find a coupon for Zevia here

Izze esque Low Calorie Natural Sparkling Soda. $5.49 for 6 at Whole foods, 14g carbohydrates. I bought the watermelon flavor with this one, too and I actually preferred the Hint watermelon over this. The taste was definitely yummy and I quite enjoyed it… which has a little bit of insulin privately to counter the 14g of carbohydrates. If carbs aren't a concern and you take insulin, this is often a great alternative. To enjoy a beverage such as this more economically, I recommend taking some club soda and adding a a little your favorite veggie juice. You can control the amount of sweetness and carbs doing this and still get yourself a refreshing and natural alternative to diet soda.

G.T.'s Kombucha $3.19 at Whole Foods. 8g carbohydrates, 2 servings per bottle, 16g carbohydrates per bottle (for Cosmic Cranberry flavor) This is my beverage of choice. If I am not h2o, or coffee, it's most assuredly G.T.'s Cosmic Cranberry Kombucha. What is kombucha, It's a fermented tea that in this instance, is mixed with somewhat of juice and it has many health improvements. As a yoga teacher, I see a lot of my colleagues drinking this delicious and slightly effervescent beverage. It suppresses your appetite, increases energy levels, healthier skin and hair, a stronger immune system- the list goes on and on. Try one- they may be amazing. (No, I'm not paid to convey this… though I wish I was!)

Where does Diet Coke complement, $37.68 for 32 cans on , 0g carbohydrates and sweetened with aspartame and sometimes Splenda. While we have no idea the health perils associated with Diet Coke to date, it certainly contains issues that I'd like to not drink. Things like colour (caramel E150d), sweeteners (aspartame, acesulfame-K), flavourings (including caffeine), phosphoric acid, citric acid. Contains a way to obtain phenylalanine.”- From the Diet Coke website.

If you do not drink diet soda, what do you drink, What are your thoughts on diet sodas, Do you think which you'd be ready to try another thing, Why or you will want to,
